AI Strategy Sessions for Boards and Executive Teams

Boards and executive teams are accountable for decisions on AI that will shape their organizations for a decade. Ross Dawson’s AI strategy sessions give them a clear framing of AI’s role in the organization, the governance that enables transformation rather than blocking it, and a roadmap they own.

The sessions range from a 90-minute board briefing to a workshop series that produces a draft AI transformation roadmap. Each is built around the organization’s sector, its current position on AI, and the decisions in front of its leaders.

Audience: boards, executive teams, and AI or transformation steering groups.

What the sessions cover

Every session is tailored, and most draw on six domains for AI planning.

  • Strategy and governance. The role of AI in the organization’s strategy and value creation, and minimum viable AI governance that balances risk with the enablement of transformation.
  • Customer relationships. AI in service, personalization, and the rise of AI-empowered customers, and what they mean for the organization’s customer strategy.
  • Organization design and workforce transition. How work will be reshaped, the roles of humans and AI in value creation, and the transition path for the workforce.
  • Culture. Talent attraction, retention, and development in the AI era, and the leadership behaviors that build trust in AI.
  • Implementation and capability development. Use-case portfolio selection, pilots and iteration, and the capabilities the organization needs to build.
  • Business models. Where AI opens new value propositions, revenue models, and ecosystem positions.

Frameworks

The sessions draw on frameworks Ross has developed and taught, including his LinkedIn Learning courses Building an AI Roadmap and AI-Driven Business Model Innovation, and his Humans + AI strategy frameworks. Where it helps, participants work with AI tools in the room, so the session demonstrates Humans + AI thinking rather than describing it.

Outcomes

  • A shared framing of AI. The leadership team aligned on what AI means for the organization, in language it can use with the wider business.
  • The key decisions surfaced. The highest-priority issues for board and executive attention, and where governance is needed now.
  • Priority use cases and capabilities. A first portfolio of use cases assessed on impact and feasibility, and the capability priorities to pursue them.
  • A roadmap. From a high-level outline in a single briefing to a phased draft roadmap from a workshop series.

Examples of recent work

The board of a major health insurer wanted a structured view of AI’s implications before setting direction. Ross ran a board session framing AI for the organization’s success, from perspectives on AI in the enterprise and the AI Roadmap and Business Model Innovation frameworks through the six domains for AI planning, with case studies from insurers and healthcare organizations and discussion throughout.

A major wealth management group was launching an AI transformation program and wanted its leadership aligned on the roadmap. Ross designed and ran a series of workshops that framed the program around a people-focused Humans + AI approach, worked through AI application domains and use-case prioritization, and produced an early draft roadmap across the first eighteen months, including minimum viable governance, technology enablement, learning pathways, and work and culture.
