Probably most people don&#039;t know about the interchange fees that issuing/acquiring banks charge merchants for accepting cards. Merchants hate those fees (understandably). Those fees are very, very profitable for the banks, and as long as there&#039;s no competition and the fees are kept secret, there&#039;s not much to do about it.
