Hi Samuel, yes absolutely agree about the text mining, but the point is these are not alternatives but complementary. You need to tap both explicit (social) and implicit (behavior analytic) approaches to crack this one.

Nice post, but using social media still requires people to make their knowledge explicit. We know this is often hard and sometimes even impossible... Commenting on an earlier post I've pointed to a better way to do this. I'm not a vendor, but would love to hear what you think about this concept.

I agree Ross. One thing that constantly surprises me, given the tools and capabilities at our disposal, is the way large organisations ask people to complete their own profiles based on what they say they know, rather than what they are demonstrating they know. At https://www.binaryplex.com we are currently building software to help solve the problem of organising knowledge and expertise for the people in your organisation, without them needing to update a manual profiling system. I think that a complete share of knowledge through social network is the way to go. I don’t want blogs to turn into big job-board where people brags about things they know.
Knowledge that is not shared gives advantages in the short-term only. If you want long-term progress, you’re better off sharing your ideas.
