Fair point Wendy :-) I have defined my terms in my comment above, and I think that is also stated fairly clearly on the page (though it possibly could be improved so I will revisit it). My emphasis on not taking the list too seriously is focused on the reality that any algorithm based on simple inputs is highly limited. I will leave it to others to attempt to draw clear boundaries on who is and is not a futurist in their opinion; for this list self-description is sufficient.

Thanks for the clarification. Given that you'd invested some time in compiling the list and creating the analytics, it would seem that you wanted it taken at least a *little* bit seriously. In which case understanding your starting point is at least a *little* bit important. I appreciate your response.

Thanks Wendy, for the purposes of compiling this list the main qualification is self-description as a futurist, or to be actively involved in exploring or communicating about the future. There are many potential definitions of a futurist, and the intention here is not to place tight criteria, which would manifest a particular worldview from many possibilities. As stated on the rankings page, this is not to be taken too seriously! :-)

Query - how did you identify the people listed as 'futurists' prior to invoking your influence app to rank them? Inventors, scientists, and science fiction writers may be strongly influencing attitudes and events in the future, but that does not necessarily make them futurists - if by futurists you mean people who study emergent change and the multiple possible outcomes generated by dynamic complexity, and the values and worldviews with which those outcomes are perceived. How *do* yo define 'futurist'? Clearly not by academic certification, as that would make this list much smaller.
