You shouldn't take what you read so seriously. :-)

No I certainly can't extrapolate more than a few meters from that one experience, but it's still instructive.

Wow. Somebody needs to spend a bit longer in China before making such blanket claims based seemingly on a single interaction. Your 'satisfaction box' may have been the exception to the rule, but usually the buttons are ajar and there are wires hanging out the back - obviously not hooked into anything.

Ask anyone who actually lives in China about their customer service experiences, and you're not likely to get a positive response. Obviously if you're staying in 5 star hotels and eating at expensive restaurants, they are striving to maintain international standards of service.

But at 99.9% of Chinese restaurants or shops, try complaining about a product or dish, or sending anything back, and you may be in for a rude surprise.

I agree that 'customer service' at US Immigration is nothing short of appalling, as is airport security, or most other government services, but I'm sure that is not their primary concern. And if you were treated exceptionally well at Chinese immigration, you might try asking a variety of people about their experiences there to be sure this isn't a consequence of your skin color and/or nationality. I suggest you start with Chinese nationals, especially ethnic minorities.
