Yes you’re right Harold, though it does depend on the type of work. For salespeople, no-one cares how much they play games as long as they get the results. Some other jobs are reasonably well measured by time spent.

Though my immediate thought was that of course we want to design work so that it is a game anyway – if people can do what they feel like doing anyway and create value from it, that’s a good place to be. :-)

What’s wrong with playing all day? We need to discard the Taylorist notions that time is money. Results are money. If I play all day and bring in more revenue than my peers who don’t play why would you want to stop me? A results oriented work environment gets rid of this notion of time for money. It doesn’t work in a creative economy.
